Harley Davidson Owners Group

Last weekend we had as guests at Rad Icarium Rural Apartments our friends from the Barcelona Space Chapter of the Harley Davidson Owners Group.

The H.O.G., Harley Davidson Owners Group, is the largest motorcycle club in the world, with more than one million members. The basis of the H.O.G. is the local Chapters. Each Chapter is tied to a Harley-Davidson dealership that sponsors it. Chapter's members share a passion for motorcycling, and much of what they do supports those interests. Motorcycling events range from group rides, safety courses, competitions, rallies, national H.O.G rides and weekend motorcycle rides. Although the main emphasis is on motorcycling, many groups come together to raise funds for charity, attend events and much more.

Barcelona Chapter Space

The Barcelona Chapter Space is one of the first chapters in Spain and the oldest in Catalonia, since its formation dates back to 1993. On this occasion 17 motorcycles came plus other members of the group and companions who came by car.The main reason for the visit was the 'cow dinner', but, although they were there only for a short time, they were able to enjoy some of the attractions of Guara-Somontano.

Dinner, relax, stars

Some arrived on Thursday afternoon so they could enjoy a good dinner at Casa Pardina de Alquezar, probably the best restaurant in the area not only for the quality of the food but for the kindness and attention of the owners and all the staff.

Then, relax and talk on our terrace contemplating the stars under the sky of Guara, an excellent observation point for being one of the skies with the least light pollution in the country.

Alquézar footbridges, Vero river

After a quiet and silent night, they woke up to the cowbells of the sheep. In the morning, walk through the area highlighting the obligatory visit to the Alquézar footbridges, to enjoy the impressive tour of the Vero river canyon in which nature demonstrates its strength and beauty. Swim in the river and lunch at the Camping del Rio Vero, a charming and fresh enclave.

Dinner, comfort, dancing

On Friday afternoon, the other members of the Barcelona Chapter Space arrived, most of them staying in our Rad Icarium apartments and those who had no more places in the other Radiquero accommodations. A bit of rest, conversation on the terrace and garden and departure for dinner. After dinner they were in the square of the village, but, in order not to disturb the neighbors who were already resting in their homes, they returned to Rad Icarium where they could be dancing and talking in the living room and terrace until late at night.

Concentration of motorcycles

On Saturday they all gathered at Rad Icarium. First of all, prepare and wash the bikes to remove the mud from the previous night's rain. A little conversation and planning of the day and then, in an impressive caravan of motorcycles, they left for Adahuesca.

Radiquero Cheeses

There they visited the Alodia wine cellar, a traditional family winery of the D.O. Somontano where they toured the facilities and were able to taste their excellent wines. Then they visited the Radiquero cheese factory, which, by chance of fortune, has its magnificent facilities located in Adahuesca.  The cheese factory is a remarkable building of traditional architecture in accordance with the artisanal nature of the products that are made there.

The quality of Radiquero's goat cheeses is recognised by numerous national and international awards. For food safety reasons, it is not possible to access the interior of the Cheese Factory and "tour" the Processing Rooms and Maturation Chambers, but the so-called Visitors Space has been set up, from which the Main Processing Room can be viewed. There they took a guided tour and then a tasting of their main cheeses accompanied by a glass of harvester wine of Somontano,.

Motorcycle route Adahuesca-Rodellar-Adahuesca

Back on the motorcycles, the magnificent circular route of 57 Km. Adahuesca, Alberuela, Rodellar, Abiego, Adahuesca. An excellent road for motorcycles, narrow, little traveled, with many curves that offers views of the Sierra de Guara, the Isuala and Alcanadre rivers, crop fields (olive trees, almond trees, vines), elements of the landscape typical of the Somontano area and especially, the overwhelming scenery of Rodellar, on the Mascún ravine, an exceptional point of reference for canyoning, hiking and climbing.

Back from the route, impressive entrance and parade of the superb and beautiful motorcycles in the Plaza de Radiquero. In the square there was a bar managed by the Peña Cañones del Vero Football Association, organizers of the event, attended by some young people from Radiquero who, to everyone's joy, are effectively taking over the organization of the festivities.

The traditional photo of the members of the Chapter with their flag. Then an aperitif for everyone in which, of course, there was no lack of freshly sliced iberian ham. Meanwhile in the town square, the cow was already roasting from the early hours of the morning. The restaurateurs, specialized in this event, bring a whole cow open in a carcass.  They place it on a large grill and slowly roast it in full view of all the attendees.  It is really a very curious and interesting show. In addition, the roast cow is delicious.

Country dances

After lunch and a restful rest, some bikers went to bathe in the river while the others had a small gathering on our terrace overlooking Guara.

At dusk, again in the square, the members of the Chapter were kind enough to wear a special t-shirt for the event, "Espacio Barcelona Chapter Radiquero". We were treated to a country dance session with a masterclass included.

And finally, dinner: a delicious roast beef just cooked and freshly cut.

About 250 people from Radiquero, Alquézar, Adahuesca and other towns in Somontano attended. Even many non-habitual residents moved from Barcelona, Huesca or Zaragoza. Our square was overflowing.  A true spectacle of fun and camaraderie.

Then, how could it not?, BINGO.

Without any 'black hand' or favouritism, one of the bikers took the prize: an iberian ham.

And then DANCE !!.

But the night did not end here for the gentlemen and ladies of the motorcycles. Gathered again in the living room, terrace and garden of the Rad Icarium Apartments, they continued to party until the early hours of the morning.

Lot to see and do in Guara

And, unfortunately, most of us work on Mondays, so on Sunday morning the bikers set out on the route back to Barcelona with the memory of a pleasant weekend and the promise of returning to Guara.  We hope it's true because they had many activities to do, many interesting places to visit and many motorcycle routes to travel.

And this is the story of an exceptional weekend in our Sierra de Guara in which the protagonists were the members of the Espacio Barcelona Chapter of the H.O.G. of Harley Davidson and the cow.  Many thanks to the Peña Cañones del Vero for giving us this magnificent and unique event.
